GrowLocal Urban Gardens Lafayette, Indiana

Downtown Lafayette, Indiana has an ever growing number of urban gardens that are made possible by multiple collaborations between local organizations and individual volunteers. Gardens such as these bring an element of nature and food to urban areas where they otherwise would not be. They have the power to increase community engagement, provide common ground for community members to gather, work, eat and connect, and in my opinion present an opportunity for everyone in our area to join together, regardless of any socioeconomic disparity. I think this unification and the things that create space for it to grow are crucial to being able to understand and support all of the people in our communities. I had a perfect morning seeing the spaces and people that make our community special, on the Urban Garden Bike Tour today, which had the bonus fun of touring past the Wabash Walls projects as they are in progress. Thank you to Wabash River Enhancement Program, Imagination Station, Tippecanoe Arts Federation, Bicycle Lafayette, Lafayette ReNew, Grow Local, Friends Of Downtown, Habitat For Humanity, Ian Thompson, Shannon Stanis, Ken McCammon and many others that are collaborating to make our entire community better for the environment and for us.
