Notes from current owner: I should start by saying I love this little house. I raised my two kids here, spending every spring filling the yard with colorful perennials, and every fall enjoying the excitement of college sports and marching bands down the street. My kids have loved attending school in the award-winning West Lafayette school system, and I have enjoyed leisurely walks and bike rides to work at Purdue every morning, not to mention easy access to Ross Ade and Mackey area, city hall, the library, shopping, and restaurants.

The New Chauncey neighborhood is highly desirable for families and is known for being a little bit bohemian and very scholarly. Most of the neighbors are connected to the university and bring vibrant and worldly experiences, art, and culture to all of our interactions. Neighbors are very friendly and are known to share an impromptu beer or glass of wine on the porch just because, while the kids and dogs (and chickens!) play in the yard. We hold an annual Halloween parade in Lincoln Park and an Easter egg hunt and July 4 parade on Chauncey Ave. We have entertained many people here, with folks congregating over food and drinks in the kitchen, den and backyard, where we regularly had campfires and grilled out on the deck.

In the yard there is a lot of activity by beautiful birds – you will see a LOT of cardinals in the winter and colorful and charismatic hummingbirds all spring and summer. If you’re quick, you will see a beautiful red fox that lives in the neighborhood with her kits. Perennials on the property include ferns, black-eyed susans, coneflower, lamb’s ear, monarda, salvia, sage, thyme, and clematis, all planted to bring birds, bees, and butterflies to the yard – and they come in droves! I was at first concerned about being so close to my neighbors, but found that for most of the year, lush greenery provides a privacy screen between you and the neighbors.

This house has always been a family owner-occupied home and has been cared for accordingly. Since I moved to Meridian in 2005, I replaced the original furnace and air conditioner, all the kitchen appliances, the external doors including the garage door, the roof (2019) and the electrical wiring (2017-2019). We also reinforced the original insulation by having a crew spray foam insulation into the walls, which, along with the programmable thermostat, makes it an efficient little house in the Indiana weather. To make the most of the storage area on the main floor, we added a barn door to the master bedroom closet and converted a windowless third bedroom into a walk-in master closet (it previously served as a sizable office). The basement was ideal for sleepovers, movies, and video games, and served as another bedroom and recreational area for the kids and ample storage space for me.

We accepted job offers in another state which prompts our decision to sell this house, otherwise I would happily enjoy it for many years to come. I hope that this house finds a new buyer who loves and enjoys it as much as we have. (end note)
